I’ve been practicing hypnosis for quite a few years, and like many professionals, I wanted to explore new approaches. I had known of Karl Smith’s reputation as a world-class hypnotist for years, but I knew little about his methodology—Kinetic Shift.
There’s only so much you can learn online. The in-person training was invaluable, allowing me to refine new skills in a controlled environment while receiving real-time feedback. It was a fun, hands-on weekend where I must have hypnotised at least 20 different people. That kind of live experience is priceless for building confidence. Following it up with the online course helped me revisit the subtleties and nuances I may have missed during the weekend, all at a relaxed pace from my own living room.
One of my biggest takeaways was this: give your client more time to process. As hypnotists, we often get excited to apply every technique we’ve learned, but sometimes less is more. The real skill is paying attention—REALLY listening—to your client.
What surprised me most was how powerful content-free hypnosis is and, even more intriguingly, how long you can simply sit in silence while your client processes. Karl’s emotional detox technique is a simple yet powerful way to clear general negativity—something I’ll be incorporating into my own work as a streamlined alternative to the Grey Room technique I learned from David Snyder.
I strongly recommend this training to both new and experienced hypnotists. Karl is not only an excellent teacher, but he also has a rare gift for choosing metaphors that make complex topics easy to grasp. His direct, no-nonsense approach to hypnosis is refreshing. He’s a real-world hypnotist—the kind of person who can create deep trance states anywhere, any time, any place.
There are plenty of snake oil salespeople out there in the world of hypnosis, many of whom offer expensive training courses despite having never hypnotised anyone outside of a classroom environment. Karl is definitely NOT one of them. He walks the walk—he doesn’t just teach hypnosis, he LIVES it.
If you’re on the fence, let me save you some time: you don’t need to think about this—you need to take action. It will change your life. What are you waiting for?
